2011 has seen the world gripped with rugby fever thanks to the Rugby World Cup, hosted in New Zealand. On 23rd October, New Zealand’s team the All Blacks made history by winning on their home turf at Eden Park in Auckland. The match with France was a close one with it coming down to just a 1 point lead for the All Blacks.
The victory celebrations lasted for days with New Zealand paying tribute to the All Black team with three victory parades in Auckland, the country’s biggest city, Wellington, the capital and Christchurch which was ravaged by an earthquake in February 2011.
One of the star players of the World Cup was All Black Dan Carter who reluctantly didn’t play in the semi-final or final due to injury. But Carter hasn’t let his groin injury hamper his other career as a mens underwear model. In the latest Jockey Underwear campaign, Dan Carter can be seen sporting the new ‘ouch’ boxer shorts. The advert itself features a sticking plaster design over Carter’s groin with the wording ‘ouch’ Jockey displayed on the waistband.
But this isn’t the first time Carter has been the face (and body) of Jockey Mens Underwear. Back in 2005, Carter also modelled for the brand. At the time he was known as New Zealand’s Sexiest Celebrity so it was no wonder that the brand chose him to promote their brand in the southern hemisphere.
Priding itself on being an athletic brand, Jockey Underwear are renowned for choosing prominent sporting figures to be the face of the brand. In 2010 Mitchell Johnson, the Australian Cricketer, launched the autumn/winter men’s underwear collection. For spring 2011, the face of the brand was Tim Tebow, the American football quarterback who helped launch the new Staycool collection.
So who will be next year’s brand ambassador, we’re looking to the 2012 Olympics for inspiration…
